In a shift from traditional release schedules announced last fall (normally release Dynamics GP 2015 R3 in 2016), Microsoft has formally announced that it will be releasing Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016, expected to be generally available starting May 1, 2016.
What Can You Expect in GP 2016?
Dynamics GP 2016 is part of Microsoft’s new roadmap, focused on adding features faster and becoming a smarter ERP platform. With Feature of the Day Blogs beginning this month, we will work to keep you updated on the full functionality from the coming release, including some of the new features noted in a blog series by Dynamics GP, as well as in a blog from Business Process Incubator:
Modern HTML5 Client
This is a powerful release because we believe it is going to transform the way people and businesses interact with and what they expect from their business solutions. First off Dynamics GP includes the new and modern HTML5 client that will work across devices like iPads and Android. It enables users to work when they want, how they want, with the device they want. It enables businesses to have control over how they leverage the cloud.
Improvements to and Connections for Power BI
Dynamics GP isn’t just pretty, it’s smart too. With the new Odata connections for PowerBI, Dynamics GP you can get more than just year to date sales, you can get knowledge to actually run the business instead of monitoring it.
Export Numbers to Excel, Not Just Text
Some Dynamics GP users may be surprised to learn that exporting numbers to Excel as numbers (as opposed to text) wasn’t possible in older Dynamics GP releases and a few users will be glad to see this feature introduced. It’s another way Microsoft is working to make Dynamics GP more flexible and easy to use.
Improved Workflow Experience
Dynamics GP 2016 gives users tighter control over workflows. Users will be able to change workflow approval conditions, as well as set up workflow reassignment notifications for delegations, escalations and alternate approvals.
New SmartList Features
There are two main SmartList developments in Dynamics GP 2016. The first is the ability to import and export SmartList definitions created with SmartList Designer from one install to another, which saves on reporting time.
The second is the ability to create a new SmartList from a favorite using SmartList Designer. Users will no longer need to ‘reinvent the wheel’ every time they create or modify a new report, making it more efficient and user friendly
Community Recommendations—All-in-One Document Viewer
Our existing Dynamics GP community is incredibly important to us and we strive to really listen and act upon their needs. This release includes many features requested by the community and a few new designs our talented people though up like the All In One document viewer.
Dynamics GP 2016 users will be able to view all sales documents for a transaction, as well as quantity in and quantity out transactions for one item, in a single window. This feature is likely to be accessed via Customer Maintenance, selected sales inquiry windows, navigation lists and the homepage.

- Purchasing Requisitions – Project Integration
- HTTPS Support for Management Reporter Viewer
- Multiple Page Scan
- Default EFT File Formats For Scotia Bank
- Change Workflow Approval Conditions
- Enable Credit card Payment Type for Check Run Processing
- Increase Distribution Reference Field Size
- Named User Licensing Support for Self Service User Type
