Convergence 2015 Recap: What’s Now, What’s Next for Dynamics?

Convergence 2015It was the business event of the year for some. Featuring keynotes, musical guests, and some of the best learning opportunities for users; Microsoft Convergence 2015, held on March 15-19, 2015 in Atlanta, brought together over 12,000 people from 76 countries to network, learn and explore their Microsoft Solutions.

So what’s happening now? What can users expect in the coming years? As your go-to provider of Microsoft Dynamics products, services, and add-ons, we would like to highlight some of the key happenings at this key event.

Satya Nadella and Kirill Tatarinov Keynote Address

“Recent history has seen business transformation go hand-in-hand with technology advancements.” Businesses on the cutting edge are transforming their industries and capitalizing where others fail.

In this keynote, Satya Nadella introduced a wide range of new applications built to capitalize on the convergence of business and technology. A few of the new products introduced included Microsoft Delve, a ‘newsfeed for your business,’ the Azure IoT Suite, promising to better connect people, places, and things for your business, and Skype for Business, set to replace elements of Microsoft Lync.

See the video below for highlights from the keynotes, including quotes from Satya Nadella, Kirill Tatarinov, and others on the transformation of business.

Dynamics GP Product Roadmap

One of the most important parts of Convergence is seeing where the products are heading. Convergence 2015 is no different. After a vastly successful release of Dynamics GP 2015, speakers covered the next steps, including innovations and plans over the next two years.

Dynamics GP Roadmap

As you can see, there are many innovative things coming to GP in coming months:

  • Time Management App: A Cross-platform tablet app that allows users to enter time off requests (sick, vacation, etc.) for approval.
  • All-in-One Doc Viewer
  • Accounts Payable Invoice Approval
  • Automated Provisioning for Azure

All of this is set to appear in coming months in the Dynamics GP 2015 R2 Update in late 2015.

Who’s Using Dynamics?

With over 12,000 users, partners, and Microsoft employees attending the conference, it says something about the amount of users. Here is the 3-year company breakdown of each Dynamics solution.

Product Companies (2013) Companies (2014) Companies (2015)
Dynamics GP 43,000 47,000 47,000
Dynamics SL 13,500 13,500 13,500
Dynamics AX 18,000 19,000 20,000
Dynamics CRM 39,000 40,000 40,000+
Dynamics NAV 94,000 102,000 110,000

As you can see, numbers remain steady for all provisions, but with recent updates to meet the needs of businesses, growth expectations for GP and SL can be expected in coming years.

Additional News from Convergence 2015

Something we’ve understated so far is the update to Power BI, a tool that helps customers take the pulse of their business via live market operational dashboards, explore data through interactive visual reports, and easily share new insights with colleagues and customers.

Office 2016 also is set to add to an already industry-leading solution. In the IT Pro and Developer Preview, Kirk Koenigsbauer announced some of the updates that users can expect:

  • Data Loss Protection: Already part of Outlook, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint, Microsoft will be bringing DLP to the rest of Office.
  • Improvements to Outlook: MAPI-HTTP Protocol, Foreground Network Calls, Multi-Factor Authentication, Lean Storage Footprint, and Improved Search
  • Improved Click-to-Run Deployment: Better network traffic management, Enhanced Distribution Management, Flexible Update Management, Simplified Activation Management, and more.

More information will come as developers are currently able to test and recommend improvements to Office products.

Up Next: Microsoft Ignite 2015

Coming soon from Microsoft is the new event for all the business solutions that aren’t under the Dynamics umbrella. Scheduled for May 4-8, 2015 in Chicago, we will be sure to see more updates to Microsoft Business Solutions that weren’t covered at Convergence.
