My Sarbanes-Oxley compliant clients often ask if there are additional features for reporting and tracking changes to the Microsoft Dynamics SL database by user, date, screen ID, etc.
While Microsoft Dynamics SL does not offer these advanced tracking capabilities out-of-the-box, there is a third party tool, developed by KB Technologies, which allows more robust and sophisticated audit tracking capabilities and connects. This tool, known as the “SL Auditor,” directly connects with Microsoft Dynamics SL.
For each add, change or delete action the tool tracks:
- The date and time of the change
- The program from which the change was made
- What was changed and displays the before and after values
- The Dynamics SL User ID of the person who made the changes
- The computer name of the origin of the change
- The SQL Server User ID
SL Auditor is also useful because if data has been deleted, it is often important to be able to see when, and who, deleted the record. For those clients, where increased control is required, this type of tool is a great way to monitor their environment. The tool even allows you to select which modules, tables, and processes to audit in order to custom tailor it to fit your company’s needs.
SL Auditor operates at the data level and is completely invisible to the end user.
The image below represents what the end user will see when they open SL Auditor and want to view the activity in a particular module.
The SL Auditor is compatible with Microsoft Dynamics SL 6.0, 6.5 and 7.0. There is a fee for this module.
